Rockcliffe House

Rockcliffe House is a study in performance-driven form — a contemporary rural home where architecture, climate, and terrain work as one. Set within an open field above the Beaver Valley, Rockcliffe House is conceived as a landscape-anchored dwelling shaped directly by sun, topography, and wind.

The design process began with extensive site analysis — mapping solar paths, seasonal light, and long-view orientations — to establish a geometry that maximizes southern exposure and passive solar gain.

The resulting form reads as a series of interlocking roof planes — dynamic, angular, and responsive to the horizon. These shifts generate a luminous interior with tall glazed corners and a continuous clerestory that draws daylight deep into the living spaces.

Inside, warm wood surfaces meet exposed structure and unbroken panes of glass, framing the landscape as both art and atmosphere. The main living space forms a calm vantage point — open to meadow and sky — while the roof’s dramatic incline lifts the experience vertically, giving the modest footprint a sense of breadth and lightness.
