Yonge Street Animal Hospital

Located in midtown, the Yonge Street Animal Hospital is housed in a retail storefront on the busiest street in the city. Designed to meet the needs of pets and their owners, the robust interior receives cats and dogs of all sizes for grooming, boarding, treatment and surgeries.

Located at street-level, the store-front is also a convenient neighbourhood stop for pet food, treats and prescriptions.

The narrow, two-story health care renovation required careful technical programming which included a registration area, several examination rooms (including a dedicated room for very large dogs), a grooming station, separate kennels for cats and dogs, a surgical suite, a treatment and recovery room, an X-Ray station and a secure pharmacy.

With a long-standing presence in the neighbourhood, the Yonge Street Animal Hospital was also ready for a re-branding and new identity to celebrate its retail presence.

Circulation, materiality and functionality — responding to the brand, retail, services and clinical requirements — led the design process that produced a robust interior to serve the needs of the staff, patrons and pets.
